Under 14's

As everyone probably knows we had a very late invitation to the Frome Town 6-A-Side which was held on Sunday 11th May.

You all know my feelings about tournaments, they're great fun but devisive. But, to help Frome out I made a few calls and raised a squad of 8. Unfortunately though Julian fell ill late Saturday night, and Joe let us down by not turning up!

The six lads exhausted themsleves playing out of their skins in Sunday's heat. They topped their league of 5 teams winning 3 and losing only one and finishing top goal scorers.

They then won their quarter final but eventually lost a fantastic semi-final which was 7 minutes each way (0:0), then 3 minutes each way extra time (0:0), followed by golden goal extra-time with each team removing one player every one minute starting with the goal keeper. When we got done to 1 v 1 the referee realised the minimum had to be 2 v 2. With 4 utterly exhausted players left on the pitch, after we had several near misses Frome Sports snatched the illusive golden goal to go through.

Fantastic game and a monmental effort of which the boys can be very proud.

The boys are pictured above, shattered, with their well-earned semi-final medals.

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - 2008-09 SEASON

With League applications needing to be in whilst I'm on holiday, so I have to deal with them now, after some very long discussions Paul and I have agreed in principle to continue as U15s next season.

I can reveal that we have new (and very generous) kit sponsor although the the offer is only on the condition that Paul and I continue so no new kit will be ordered until Paul and I are sure about the players involved.

We fully expect the team to be relegated which may be for the better.

Paul and I feel very strongly about not giving up a moments more time only for attitudes and performances to continue as they have been. A comment which does not include all players.

If the grapevine is accurate, Joe, David and Sam R are not continuing, although nobody has spoken to me and nobody has yet returned their kit.

Michael, Ryan, Jack W, both Jordan's, Billy, George, Adam and Daniel, either themselves or their parents, have told me they want to continue.

In any event Paul and I are agreed that the extreme range of abilities within the current squad of 16 is an inhibiting factor which he and I need to address if we are to bounce back.

On my return from holiday (end of May), Paul and I will discuss with the team's leading players, where we go from here because one way or another we will be drawing a line under the team as it has been.

Finally, I'd like to thank all concerned for clearing remaining subs.

KITS NEED TO BE RETURNED PLEASE. IF YOU HAVE LEFT THEN THEY SHOULD BE RETURNED IMMEDIATELY, OTHWERWISE, PLEASE KEEP THEM UNTIL WE NEXT MEET. DON'T FORGET THE SOCKS.
